This week, I’m at Week 3 of the Keswick Convention. That’s the week of Keswick Unconventional in which I’m involved, mostly in the Night Shift.
I’m a big fan of the Keswick Convention. The main reason is that it feels like a holiday. It’s partly the surroundings. The Lake District is all around you. And there a Bible-related things going on in the mornings and evenings, but it’s not overwhelming. It doesn’t have that intense feeling where you feel the need to rush from one session to the next.
And, crucially, you book your own accommodation. This means you can stay in a hotel, static caravan, B&B or tent. Whatever floats your boat. And, some years, floats your tent. But whatever you do, book it early. In fact, I’d book it now for next year. Seriously. Keswick is not a big town, and things get booked up. So now would be a time to look. And book.
You’ve Looked. Now Listen
The other thing I’ve done for the Keswick Convention over the last few years is make podcasts. Quite a few over three years. Can I recommend a handful of them?
Here’s one that looks at our identity crisis with Professor Glynn Harrison and Karen Soole – and how Christians say their identity is in Christ, so that’s good. But, er, what does that actually mean? And how we can be grateful for our identity? Have a listen to that one HERE
And there’s more in being grateful in this fast-moving episode with lots of voices and perspectives, with some handy hacks on cultivating a habit of gratitude, which is the theme of this year’s Keswick Convention.
Going back into the archives, I really enjoyed this chat I had with Dr Garry Williams in which there’s a bit about studying theology in an academic institution as a Christian – and how you have to work twice as hard. Well worth your time.
And fans of the Faith in Kids podcast, and Awesome Cutlery, might enjoy this chat I had with Captain Awesomeness’s alter-ego, Gareth Loh.
Or you can scroll through the whole lot and subscribe to the Keswick Convention Podcast HERE.
And, even better, book to come to the Keswick Convention next year. Ideally Week 3. See you there!
